Grey Highlands is going to consider awarding a $328,000 tender for water main, hydrant, and road work at the Markdale Complex.
In an email from Manager of Communications and Corporate Strategy Jerri-Lynn Levitt, she says the tender will award the work for along Radford Street in Markdale and the complex, which will see a new hydrant installed, and the installation of a bulk full station. The station replenishes water on a bulk scale, and Levitt says there will be fees associated with using its services.
A request for proposal was issued at the end of April, and by the closing date in May, no submissions were received. Following internal discussions, proposals were requested from four contractors by June 2. Two submissions were received.
A report from Environmental Compliance Specialist Jenn Eagan recommends awarding the tender to SMRS Construction.
The report adds given how the tender award date would occur later than anticipated, some minor schedule changes may occur.
If council declines the recommendation and proceeds through a tender process, the work would be delayed to be completed in 2024.
“It is not recommended to delay this project until 2024. Part of this project was the bulk full station, which has been ordered and is being constructed. There are also other projects identified for 2024 construction and this will delay other timelines and lead to a potentially more expensive project,” says the report.
The tender falls within the 2023 capital budget, and will be discussed at council on June 21 at 10 a.m.
