The enhancement of childcare space and other renovations at St. Edmund’s Public School in Tobermory are progressing well.
That’s what the Bluewater District School Board’s business committee heard at a meeting on Tuesday.
The board was approved for nearly $600,000 in provincial funding two years ago for the child care project. It includes a retrofit of a two-room childcare space. An office, staff room and full kitchen area are also part of renovation plans, to allow the child care centre to operate separately from the student body at St. Edmunds School.
“Additionally, this project is paired with school renewal work to improve areas of the school that benefit … students and staff,” a report to the Bluewater Board’s business committee explains. “The total ministry funded budget is $2-million.”
The committee report says renovation work with the new child care suite is moving along. Enlarged windows, new HVAC units and duct work have been completed.
This summer, work within the school area of the building and exterior to create the child care play areas is scheduled to commence.
“We should have it all wrapped up in August and ready to go for a September opening,” says Bluewater District School Superintendent of Business Services and Treasurer Rob Cummings.
