Collingwood is going to try out on-demand transit service on weekends starting next month.
Unlike conventional transit where buses make the rounds on fixed routes at fixed times, the on demand model has users request a ride — and the buses make their rounds based on those requests.
The new service starts June 10th and rides can be booked from five days to 30 minutes ahead of time, via a mobile app or by calling a dispatch line.
If this works out , on demand transit will eventually expand to evenings, and then to all parts of the day.
