A few upgrades could be coming to parks around Brockton.
Council heard staff reports Tuesday about some potential work on parks in the community.
One report outlined tender results for resurfacing the tennis courts in Walkerton. A staff report says the project is expected to cost about $253,000 and include a new base, surface coating, line painting, and new nets. if a tender is awarded, there would be nets for two pickleball courts and two tennis courts. Lights would also be converted to LED.
That staff report also says a local group has been raising money to replace the fences around the courts. Staff told council, construction and completion could occur in summer of 2023.
Meanwhile, a staff report recommends applying for an Ontario Trillium Fund grant to help replace the 25 year old lights at Walkerton’s three ball diamonds with new LED lights. That project is recommended for 2024. The current lights have reportedly deteriorated and their replacement parts are no longer available. Staff say switching to LED will save about $1,700 each year because they are more efficient.
Staff also recommended council approve the tender documents for the relocation of the Bruce Power soccer field parking lot.
The current lot was meant to only be temporary.
That project would also include the installation of a watermain and some walkways. Staff say it would cost about $575,000 to be funded in part through parkland dedication fees, grant funding, and borrowing for the East Ridge Business Park expansion project.
Staff also recommended the Elmwood community playground be resurfaced for about $20,000 to be paid for through the Elmwood Community Reserve Fund and the Elmwood Community Centre Board donation fund.
