Huron County Council declined a request for funding to Huron & Area Search and Rescue.
In a report from the county’s Treasurer and Director of Corporate Services, Michael Blumhagen, staff had recommended that the funding for $5,000-9,000 not be approved.
Councillor George Finch put forth the argument that the money should be approved, given the essential service that HASAR provides, and wanted to approve the full $9,000.
Other councillors countered that while the organization is a necessary one, the funding that was being requested was not a part of the county’s recently passed budget.
A recorded vote was held, with only two councillors moving to have the funding approved anyway, but the majority of council approved the recommendation from county staff to decline the request.
