A Meaford man faces numerous charges after police say they found inert explosives, a handgun and police clothing in a car on the 401 near the Quebec border.
Members of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Detachment of OPP initially stopped a vehicle for speeding on April 11.
During the investigation officers observed a loaded handgun, police related clothing and gear as well as what appeared to be a hand grenade.
As a precautionary measure, the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed while explosives experts were called in.
It was confirmed that two devices found were inert hand grenades that were unable to explode.
The 56 year-old suspect faces drug charges, as well as multiple weapons-related offences and a charge of stunt-driving.
