Northern Bruce Peninsula’s Treasurer is going to come back to council with a report on providing monetary support to the Lion’s Head Summer Music event.
During a meeting on April 11, council received a delegation from Dominik Franken from Lion’s Health Summer Music, a festival highlighting classical music.
“One of my pet peeves in life is to bring classical music down from its high pedestal and make it accessible to everybody,” says Franken.
Lion’s Head welcomed the event for the first time last year in August, which ran on a $2,000 contribution from Northern Bruce Peninsula council, and $3,000 from the Grey Bruce Community Foundation.
Franken says the event was able to collect $2,800 through donations during last year’s one week event, which saw about 900 people in attendance.
“We finished the year in a surplus, we actually had $1,700 left over, which was our little reserve fund. For this year, we are planning more or less the same, a little larger involvement with a choir this time too,” says Franken.
Franken is requesting council they be allowed access to Harbourside Stage for the week of the event, parking passes for the musicians, have the Rotary Hall as an alternative venue in case of weather, and a contribution of $2,000.
CAO Peggy Van Mierlo-West recommended the treasurer come back with a report regarding the $2,000 contribution as it is past the community grant period.
