Owen Sound police have charged a driver after a rollover in the city’s east side.
Police say, on Thursday April 6th, at about 1 p.m., a collision occurred at the intersection of 20th Street and 16th Avenue East, Owen Sound.
Emergency Services responded to the scene and located a Volkswagen Golf, with air bags deployed, that had rolled over and come to a stop in a ditch. Police say, fortunately, both involved drivers avoided injury despite significant force upon impact.
As a result of their investigation, Owen Sound Police say they have concluded a cargo van failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the Volkswagen Golf which was travelling westbound on 20th Street East.
A release from police says, “It is evident that the driver of the Volkswagen Golf avoided what was potentially very serious injuries thanks in large part to the proper use of their seatbelt.”
Both vehicles sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.
The 28- year-old male driver of the cargo van was charged with failing to stop for a stop sign contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
