The Saugeen Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning for Arran-Elderslie, Brockton and Kincardine.
It follows below:
“Saugeen Conservation advises that the Flood Watch has been upgraded to a Flood Warning for the Municipalities of Arran-Elderslie, Brockton and Kincardine from Wednesday, April 5th to Saturday, April 8th, 2023. All other municipalities in our watershed remain in Flood Watch until further notice.
Over the past 24 hours, a significant rainfall event was experienced in our watershed bringing upwards of
60mm of rain. This rainfall has caused numerous watercourses within the municipalities of Kincardine,
Arran-Elderslie, and Brockton to overtop their banks. Many roadside ditches are full and beginning to
flood low-lying roadways and adjacent areas.
Please be advised that water levels have risen by over 1 metre in the past 24 hours due solely to rainfall.
It is expected that water levels will continue to rapidly rise tomorrow as the rivers respond to received
rainfall. Residents are reminded to use extreme caution near all watercourses and flooded areas and are
reminded not to drive or walk through flooded areas. Conditions can change rapidly, and access routes
can be quickly cut off.
Landowners are advised to check private dams, culverts, and catch basins to ensure they are free from
debris and functioning as intended. Municipal staff should coordinate equipment at priority locations to
maintain or establish free-flow channel conditions and monitor low-lying roads that may be overtopped.
Saugeen Conservation staff will be closely monitoring the situation and will provide an update if
conditions change.”
