Grey Bruce OPP say they are conducting a death investigation death in South Bruce Peninsula.
OPP say there was an increased police presence in the Hepworth area Monday. They say there is no threat to public safety.
A section of Legion Road was closed between Spring Creek Road and John Crescent, it has since reopened.
A community group that looks for missing people called Please Bring Me Home had conducted a search with the help of about 40 volunteers Sunday in that area and group founder Nick Oldrieve tells Bayshore Broadcasting News searchers discovered the bodies of two people.
Oldrieve says he believes they are two men, 33-year-old Keith Campbell and 37-year-old Justin Yeo, who were reported missing in February after being last seen January 31st.
Oldrieve says they were staying at the nearby Hepworth Hostel and were found near what is believed to be their usual walking route that they traveled often.
He notes, his group, which has done searches for other missing people, planned the search and posted about it on Facebook. He says, “I’m very grateful for people’s willingness to come out and search for someone they didn’t even know.”
He adds, “There is kind of, a narrative out there that OPP did not do their job. I can certainly say that from my conversations with OPP, my conversations with Keith’s family— that is just not the case. OPP did a large search for the men in the wintertime shortly after they had gone missing and they were planning on going back once the snow melted. So by all accounts, I do believe strongly that OPP would have located them when they were planning on going back when the snow was gone.”
Police have not confirmed the identities of the men, but say more information will be released when it becomes available.
