Goderich council was able to hear an update on the municipality’s Official Plan.
Senior Planner Victor Kloeze explains that downtown is certainly the economic heart of the town, but because of very little vacancy, other land would need to be developed.
“The downtown core has a very low vacancy rate. There are a large number of offices downtown, and there aren’t many opportunities for new small businesses to find spaces in the Town of Goderich.”
Kloeze also says that housing was the main concern for the residents who responded to their public survey.
He says that with the feedback they got, those who responded to the survey want to see more housing throughout the town.
“There was broad support for new housing in the Town of Goderich, specifically spread throughout the town and spread through all of the neighbourhoods.”
For other community feedback, respondents were grateful for the quality of life.
“Common responses included the community and people, the waterfront, the Square and local businesses, and some of the recreational options they had from living in town.”
