Arran-Elderslie says it will use $1.3 million from the federal government to construct splash pads in Paisley and Tara, improve accessibility at some public sites and fix some sidewalks.
A splash pad in Chesley opened in 2022 and the Paisley and Tara splash pads (with the help of community raised funds) are expected to open this year. The splash pad in Tara is located just north of the arena. In Paisley, it’sacross the street from the Rotary Palace.
The federal money comes from FedDev Ontario’s Community Revitalization Fund.
The accessibility upgrades will include a lift at the municipal office, the construction of an elevator at the Paisley Community Centre, and two aquatic lifts for the Chesley Community Pool and Tara Rotary Pool.
Mayor Steve Hammell says in a statement, “We are also extremely appreciative of our residents and local groups in their fundraising efforts to support these projects,” adding, “Many residents will now be looking forward to summer and some warmer weather so that they can get out and enjoy these new community features.”
Minister responsible for Federal Economic Development Agency of Southern Ontario Filomena Tassi says in a statement, “Building and enhancing community spaces and infrastructure such as splash pads, sidewalks and accessible elevators are important to grow and maintain our towns.”
