The annual Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival is coming back this year after previously being cancelled.
In a release from Event Chair Donna Earl, she says as a result of outcry from residents, as well as individuals stepping up to assume key roles on the executive and its committees, the invasion is going to start its planning for this year.
This return comes following an indefinite pause announcement earlier this year.
“The invasion may be smaller of look a bit different as it transitions to a more environmentally friendly event,” says Earl.
The release says there may be fewer scarecrows to reduce waste going to the landfill, but more opportunities for businesses and residents to build scarecrows, participate and compete in a green scarecrow competition, as well as other activities to encourage an environmentally friendly and sustainable event.
“As part of our plans to be greener, a special committee headed by Christine Pompeo will look at all options and help us determine the best way forward,” says Earl.
As the planning progresses, any thoughts, input or interest regarding the next phase of the event should be emailed to scarecrow.invasion1@gmail.com.
