Huron County Council is moving forward with the 2023 Budget.
At a Special Council meeting on Wednesday afternoon, councillors had to deliberate over three main options presented by the Treasurer and Director of Finance, Michael Blumhagen.
Members of council were able to bring some of their concerns to the table, including whether it was wise to borrow from county reserve funding, compared to borrowing funding for ongoing and proposed projects.
They then directed staff to bring back further reports to make sure those projects were still within budgetary constraints as they progressed.
After three hours, members of council agreed to pass an option that would not reduce services to residents, and justify the increase to the tax rate.
The levy increase for 2023 will be 8.78%, which would increase the tax rate by 6.50%.
This means that for the value of a residential property, taxes would increase by $30.58 per $100,000 of the value of the home.
