A new book on monarch butterflies is flying to the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre this month for a launch event.
Indigenous author Dorothy Ladd will be launching her new book titled “Memengwaa, The Monarch Buttery,” on March 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The book looks at the deep connection between Ojibwe beliefs and the insect, with scientific facts about their lifecycles and migration, while also featuring both English and Ojibwe text. The book was translated by Marilyn Roote and illustrated by local Anishnaabe-kwe artist, Jeannette Ladd.
Bruce County says the event is open to anyone, and will be available for purchase as well as a book signing by the author.
“The launch event will provide attendees with the opportunity to meet Ladd in person and learn more about her inspiration behind the book,” says the county in a release.
More information on the launch can be found on the Bruce County Museum website here.
