West Grey has approved its 2023 budget.
Mayor Kevin Eccles says the combined tax increase — including education and county levies — is 5.96 per cent.
The municipal levy is rising this year by $1.14-million. That will cost the owner of an average assessed home ($258,000) in West Grey about $187 more on the annual tax bill.
“It isn’t where we would absolutely like it to be, but it’s a place where we think we’re doing the best for our community,” Eccles says. “We’re still supplying the needs and infrastructure upgrades and improvements that are required and expected by the residents of West Grey.”
Some of the projects included in the municipality’s operating and capital plans this year are a new tandem plow truck for Normanby, the installation of LED lighting over the floor surfaces at three arenas and the refurbishment of the Neustadt water tower.
There’s also funding allocated for the tendering and construction of a new police station.
