The Saugeen Ojibway Nation is hoping for further collaboration for mental health resources with Bruce County following the declaration of an opioid crisis.
The SON and Grey Bruce Public Health sent correspondence to the County, saying that since the State of Emergency was declared in December 2022, they’ve seen instances of stigmatization of seeking support for addiction and mental health.
They also say that there have also been instances of Indigenous people being denied access to mental health care.
The Saugeen Ojibway Nation says that they hope by bringing these issues to light, will help with starting discussion, collaborations, and fostering change.
