Owen Sound council is moving towards final approval of the the city’s 2023 budget.
A public meeting will be held at city hall tonight, and then council is expected to pass a recommendation to set the municipal levy at $33.1-million this year.
The proposed 2023 budget includes a combined tax increase of 0.86 per cent. It’s expected to cost the average assessed homeowner an additional $36 on the annual tax bill.
“The 2023 levy increase is the lowest in at least a decade,” a report by the city’s Director of Corporate Services Kate Allan says.
The $1.87-million second phase of the Downtown River Precinct — the reconstruction of the 900 block of 1st Avenue East — and Alpha Street work between 6th and 9th Avenues West ($5.1-million) are some of the major projects included in the city’s 2023 capital plan.
After tonight’s public meeting, council is expected to formally pass the 2023 budget by-law at its meeting on March 13.
