It was quite a turnout for the Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association Family Day Open house.
More than 300 kids, parents and other visitors attended conservation club’s headquarters near Wiarton on Monday as the event made its return after a three-year absence.
Visitors were able to check out the hatchery to view thousands of rainbow and brown trout to be released into Georgian Bay next year. Outdoor archery lessons and a chance to check out rare firearms were also on the docket for those visiting the open house.
The Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association is best known for fish stocking. Since the 1960s, club volunteers have stocked more than 4-million fish in local waters, and completed rehabilitation projects in two Colpoy’s Bay streams.
BPSA Vice-President Kelly Lang thanked the dozens of volunteers “for helping to make a our open house a truly great day for all who participated. I was pleasantly surprised at the attendance we had and the interest expressed. It was busy and non stop and was great to witness. I salute everyone”!
