The Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association (BPSA) is hosting its Family Day event this month for the first time in three years.
Set for Feb. 20 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.,the association is inviting residents to join the 250 member club for the event at the hatchery and clubhouse in Wiarton.
The event will include fish hatchery tours featuring thousands of rainbow and brown trout, outdoor archery, viewing the firing range and firearms display, learning about the associations invasive species awareness and tree planting projects, and toasting a free hot dog over an open fire.
“At our Family Day and Kids Fishing events, young people are taught the joys of outdoor recreation. At the same time, they are encouraged to carry on the good conservation work started by our BPSA pioneers which began this community based effort more than 60 years ago. Attendees often end up as members of this respected volunteer based conservation organization,” says the BPSA in a release.
Since its creation in 1962, the association says it works to preserve and protect fish and wildlife. The BPSA’s hatchery can handle 200,000 eggs per year with both rainbow and brown trout being raised at the facility.
