January was a busy month for development in Owen Sound.
The city’s community services committee received a development update Wednesday evening and heard 22 permits were issued last month. Total construction value topped $4.1-million.
The number of building permits issued were more than double the amount in January 2022.
One of the major projects a permit was issued for is the conversion of “The Edgewater” on 1st Avenue West from office spaces into 21 one-bedroom residential apartments.
Committee members also heard construction continues at Thompson Centres — on the north side of 16th Street East, across from Heritage Grove shopping centre — with a permit to construct a commercial building with four units.
The Tom Thomson Art Gallery is also set to undergo extensive renovations. A permit was issued for the replacement of the exterior stairs and ramp, as well as the entrance canopy, elevator and some electrical and mechanical features.
