A 69-year-old Grey County man has been charged with child pornography offences after a three-month OPP investigation.
Provincial Police say a search warrant was executed at an undisclosed residence in the village of Clarksburg last week — on Feb. 2 — and multiple electronic devices were seized containing “child sexual abuse material.”
Clarksburg is located just south of Thornbury, in northeastern Grey County.
OPP say William McKetrick, 69, was arrested and charged with six counts of possession of child pornography and five counts of accessing child pornography.
The charges against him have not been tested in court. The accused is being held for a bail hearing.
Collingwood and Town of the Blue Mountains OPP, the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit and Digital Forensic Unit were involved in the months-long investigation.
“Our reality today is that every person around the world with a sexual interest in children has immediate access to children on the Internet. We, as parents and community members, must know who our children are interacting with online. These offenders are very manipulative and use technology to access children, even though they may be in another city or country,” Detective Staff Sergeant Sharon Hanlon of the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit says in a statement.
Provincial Police say they’ll continue to aggressively identify and pursue individuals who exploit children.
“Parents are reminded to take a proactive approach to help protect their children from online sexual exploitation by speaking with their children regarding Internet safety. Parents can find resources to assist them at cybertip.ca or protectchildren.ca,” a release from the OPP explains.
