The Town of Goderich will be changing the cost to charge electric vehicles.
After staff considerations, council has decided to increase the prices to electric vehicle charging stations to $6 per hour.
Deputy Mayor Trevor Bazinet explained why this would be the best option, as he shared with the rest of council what was learned during a recent Huron County Council meeting.
The option chosen in the council documents explains that by charging $6 per hour, “The annual revenue to the municipality would be approximately $57.83 if the Town of Goderich charged $6.00 per hour at each EV charging station. This value incorporates the electrical and operational cost, as well as the 10% revenue collected by ChargePoint.”
Mayor Myles Murdoch and Bazinet both found during similar discussion during Huron County Council, that a higher cost that was still reasonable wouldn’t simply make money for the municipality, but rather have funds available for repairing or replacing the ChargePoints in the future, as well as have funding available for the future addition of more machines.
