An annual tradition in Meaford won’t be happening this year when fall rolls around.
Organizers of the Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival say the event has been paused indefinitely.
“After 25 successful years, the Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival itself cannot move forward under the current planning committee structure. Countless hours of deliberation led to this unanimous decision,” a release from the Scarecrow Invasion executive says. “The various event committees profoundly thank the many, many organizers, sponsors and volunteers who gave their financial support, time and heart to see this event ‘soar and scare’ through 25 amazing years.”
The Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival is a former Top 100 Festivals and Events Ontario designation. It was held annually in Autumn and saw the town overrun with scarecrows. Various events including an Apple Harvest Craft Show also ran as part of the festival.
The statement from organizers leaves open the possibility for the event to return in some form in the future.
It says any thoughts, input or interest regarding the “next phase” of the festival for 2024 and beyond should be sent via email to scarecrow.invasion1@gmail.com.
