Grey Bruce Public Health says that they have received reports of two fatal opioid overdoses over the past week.
As a result, GBPH is asking those who use street drugs to exercise extreme caution, as well as follow harm reduction recommendations.
The recommendations include carrying a naloxone kit, not mixing substances, and starting with a small dose and increasing slowly.
Fentanyl is suspected to be responsible for the overdoses, but toxicology reports are still pending.
Naloxone kits are available at participating pharmacies in Grey-Bruce, at Grey Bruce Public Health, and through community partners.
Opioid use and overdoses are a high priority for Grey Bruce Public Health, as they work with partners to educate and support those who are at risk of opioid and illicit drug poisoning.
They warn that people who use drugs are at significant risk of overdose due to the local street drug supply containing the highly toxic drug Fentanyl and/or Carfentanil.
