Local governments and agencies have stepped up to help residents of a privately operated assisted living home in Stayner. The owner of Huronia Guest Home shut the place down last week, and told residents they had to leave.
The closure came after complaints about poor conditions at the facility including bed bugs and a lack of food.
The County of Simcoe, the Township of Clearview, The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, and the South Georgian Bay Ontario Health Team have teamed up to provide support to residents.
That includes pest control, short- and long-term accommodation, mental health and physical health support as well as meals and transportation.
Because the home is privately run, local governments don’t have any legislative authority over its owners.
