Grey Bruce OPP say a multi-jurisdictional drug investigation has resulted in multiple arrests and a large seizure of suspected substances and offence related property.
Police say members of the Community Street Crime Units from Grey Bruce, Collingwood, and Huronia West entered into an investigation earlier this year regarding drug trafficking in the three detachment areas.
Police add on Dec. 15, members from the unit and the Grey Bruce OPP conducted a traffic stop related to the investigation in the area of 16th Avenue East and 16th Street East in Owen Sound. As a result, two occupants of the vehicle were arrested and are now facing criminal charges.
OPP say a 40-year-old from South Bruce Peninsula has been charged with three counts of possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000. The accused was held pending a bail hearing and currently remains in custody.
Police say they also charged a 63-year-old from Wasaga Beach with three counts of possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000. The accused was released and is set to appear in court in Owen Sound at a later date.
OPP add as a result of the investigation, they seized about $58,400 worth of suspected substances, and about $6,600 of offence related property.
Grey Bruce OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Paul Richardson says, “to say I am proud of the investigative work done by these officers is an understatement. These officers worked tirelessly over the last several months to make these arrests and complete this large seizure. The conclusion of this drug investigation will undoubtedly have a long-term positive impact within the communities of Saugeen First Nations, Grey County, Bruce County, and Simcoe County. We will continue our commitment to addressing the drug related overdoses within these areas, with the ultimate goal of making our communities safer for all who live here.”
