Goderich Town Hall recognizes Free Little Pantry Initiative (Left To Right: Deputy Mayor Trevor Bazinet, Pantry Creator Avery Greaves, Mayor Myles Murdock)
Goderich council got an update on a community project that was started to help those dealing with hunger.
Avery Greaves was recognized by council on Monday for the Free Little Pantry initiative, where anyone can donate to the small pantry boxes around Goderich, and anyone who needs food can take what they can use.
Prior to arriving at council chambers, Greaves had completed a presentation for high school students in Walkerton, because interest in the program has grown.
“The growth has just been so overwhelming and so many other communities are interested. So I just have to thank everyone… because the donations have been overwhelming.”
There are three outdoor pantries around Goderich, where you can “give what you can and take what you need”.
The first box is near the Goderich Tourism Centre towards Nelson Street, the second is on Lighthouse Street near the library, and the third is beside John O’Keefe Park at the corner of Bennett and Eldon Street.
Greaves also says that if you have a donation, “They can be made directly to the pantries. There are still a lot of people who think they have to donate directly to the library or to Wuerth Shoes… There are winter appropriate donations [as well]”
