Blue Mountain Resort is opening up its hills for the start of ski and snowboard season this week.
Blue Mountain Resort Manager of Public Relations Tara Lovell says the Silver Bullet high-speed six-person chairlift will be opening as of Dec. 15.
“We expect it to be a great season, as close to a normal season as we have had in a long time. It looks like mother nature is finally cooperating with us which is great and our teams have been kind of chomping at the bits to get the season underway,” says Lovell.
She adds they are also excited to be welcoming back events after going on a hiatus as a result of the pandemic.
“Slowly brought them back last season, but we are planning a whole lineup of events throughout the whole season at Blue,” says Lovell.
She says some of these events include a cooperation with The North Face, an outdoor recreation company, where people will be able to scale the side of the mountain at sunrise to tackle the hills. They are also hosting a snowboard world cup.
Lovell adds one thing they learned from Covid, was the importance of planning ahead.
“Even though we don’t have any current restrictions in place, or adapted operations in response to Covid-19, it’s always a good idea to make sure you go to the website, go to bluemountain.ca, see what’s going on, check the conditions, and plan ahead before you arrive,” says Lovell.
Lovell says opening day will be celebrated with words from Resort Senior Vice-President Chris Lewis, as well as giveaways, free refreshments, and music.
“There is a unique anticipation that happens at a ski resort at this time of year,” says Blue Mountain Resort President and CEO Dan Skelton. “We have adapted to all kinds of weather and conditions and thanks to the hard work of our team and mother nature’s cooperation, we are ready and excited to open the slopes.”
The slopes will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week all season, weather permitting.
