Goderich Tourism is hoping to launch an interactive app to help visitors learn more about the town, points of interest, and the world’s largest salt mine.
Tourism and Community Development Officer Jenna Ujiye was able to update Council on the Driftscape App, and to request authorization for the renewal of the contract with Driftscape for three years.
“This app we actually specifically chose because it would include augmented reality, that we’ve really wanted to do through the Salt Project.”
The application will be used to highlight places of interest, within the Town of Goderich, plus various tours, specials, games and quests, that we have already completed including the historical podcasts that were done a few years ago.
Currently the live app has Goderich historic buildings listed and they will remain there as a layer for years to come.
This would normally cost an extra $3,000.00 per year, but in 2019 Drftscape partnered with Goderich to showcase their software.
The total cost per year with the augmented reality would be $7,600.
“Getting someone to design and create the augmented reality would cost eight to ten thousand dollars, [but] because Driftscape is actually doing this with so many communities, we were able to get it for a much better deal.”
Each point of interest will have images, text, video if available, and some audio as well.
