West Grey council is changing the speed limit on Side Road 5 NDR along Habermehl Lake.
During a council meeting on Nov. 1, a report by Interim Director of Infrastructure and Public Works Brent Glasier was brought forward.
It recommended council approve the associated by-law to reduce the speed limit to 50 kilometres an hour from Concession 6 to about 600 meters north on Side Road 5 NDR.
The report says the municipality has many areas on West Grey roads which need speed reductions either through poor road geometry or small residential areas.
This report follows a delegation received on Oct. 5, 2021, which requested the speed limit on Side Road 5 NDR be reduced and council directed the Traffic Safety Committee to review this request.
“It does conform to meeting the warrants of a speed reduction zone in that community and I feel in talking with West Grey Police Chief Rob Martin, discussing with him, and it was his recommendation that the road be posted to 50 kilometres an hour,” says Glasier.
Glasier adds there will also be new signage.
“There would be the speed signs, and there would be a new, it would says ‘new’ on it as a yellow and red sign that would go underneath or above the speed limit sign so people’s attention is drawn to that part. Those would stay up for roughly about four to six months because people with have to be trained to slow down and recognize that,” says Glasier.
