Public schools in Huron and Perth counties will not be affected by work stoppages from a pair of Ontario unions.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is planning strike action Friday, in contravention of provincial legislation mandating a four-year contract on members, and disallowing such strikes.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) announced Thursday their members would, “walk off the job this Friday in a monumental show of solidarity with their CUPE colleagues who are set to stage a province-wide protest against Stephen Lecce and the Ford government’s Bill 28.”
The Avon Maitland District School Board confirmed to Country 104.9 News the strikes will not impact public schools in Huron and Perth counties, as workers in that board are not represented by those unions.
Workers with the AMDSB are represented by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF), and Unifor.
Meantime, the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board (HPCDSB) asked parents this week to prepare for Friday to be an online learning day for students.
CUPE says strike action will continue until a new contract is agreed upon with the Doug Ford government.
