Catholic schools in Huron and Perth counties may need to quickly adapt to a potential workers strike.
The Huron Perth Catholic District School Board (HPCDSB) is warning parents to be prepared for possible online learning this Friday.
This follows a move by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), who is threatening strike action Friday, in spite of forthcoming provincial legislation mandating a contract on workers.
“Given ongoing staffing shortages, it may not be possible to keep schools open to students on Friday,” a news release from the HPCDSB says.
“Parents are advised to plan for remote learning on Friday.”
Public schools in Huron-Perth are not going to be affected by Friday’s job action by CUPE, according to an e-mail from the Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB).
“There are no [AMDSB] employees who are members of the CUPE bargaining group. Therefore, the situation you might hear about between CUPE and the provincial government, will not impact AMDSB students,” the public school board’s e-mail reads.
