Hanover Deputy Mayor and Grey County Warden Selwyn Hicks has been defeated in his municipality.
Hicks lost his seat as Deputy Mayor to Warren Dickert, who received 1,317 votes compared to Hick’s 1,017.
Hicks says he was surprised by the outcome of the election on Oct. 24.
“My opponent, he is a great guy. I knew that Hanover was going to lose a good person one way or the other. It has been an awesome 16 years in politics, I really enjoyed it,” says Hicks.
Hicks says he now plans to return to a career as a lawyer.
“I have had my career throughout, although doing it very much part time. So I guess now, I am going to be doing law full time,” says Hicks.
Hicks adds Dickert will do well in the role as he is well liked in the community.
“He served well in his first term of council, I’m confident Hanover has got a great deputy mayor. Nice to see that our mayor is returning, so he will have her for good counsel,” says Hicks.
