1) Why are you running?
I am farming with my brother and now that the next generation is involved in the operation, it frees me up for getting more involved in our Municipality. The municipal Government is there to customize provincial regulations to the local situations, as there can be big differences between local situations in downtown Toronto and Northern Ontario. I want to be part of the team that works with the provincial and federal Government to make regulations fit well with our local area.
2) Are there any steps municipalities can take to help ease cost of living concerns?
The majority of factors regarding the cost of living are outside of our control. Regulations regarding building new homes have increased substantially in the last 40 years. Easing off a bit on some of the regulations without losing the essence of it can make for a more inviting climate to build. Careful spending and budgeting helps by not adding more to the tax burden.
3) What are your ideas for economic development in your municipality?
Attract more retail, so more money is spend in Kincardine. Make Kincardine attractive for Industry to locate. The availability of natural Gas and high speed internet are an important part of attracting Industry. Easing the doctor shortage and good recreational opportunities can help attract workers.
4) Do you think the municipality has a role to play in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other healthcare workers?
Usually this should not be the Municipality’s job. But with our current doctor shortage, it is very important that the Municipality plays a role in the recruitment and retentions of physicians and healthcare workers, as this can open the doors for growth in industry and population, while at the same time serving our existing population.
5) What would you like to see in Kincardine for growth-related development?
Better Internet in rural areas. Growth in the outlying communities and towns and more amenities. Growth in the agricultural area, as the Municipality has almost no elevators, whereas south of us there are three in close proximity. I would like to see more industry, businesses, retail and more affordable
homes.
6) What would you like to see included in the Waterfront Master Plan?
Upkeep and renovation of the Pier and breakwall are an important part for the harbor area. The Boardwalk needs upkeep and eventually replacement. Inverhuron could use better signage for the public parking areas.
