1) Why are you running?
I am running for Deputy Mayor, a position that I have fulfilled in the past in the municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula. I found it an interesting and challenging task and feel that I can still contribute using my past experience and knowledge. I am proud of my community and the work that past councils have done to make it better, I would like to help continue this work.
2) Are there any steps municipalities can take to help ease cost of living concerns?
Cost of living concerns by in large are out of municipal control but sometimes small things like support for local farmers markets, reduced user fees for municipal recreational programs and facilities and free limited parking passes for local residents can help ease costs.
3) What are your ideas for economic development in your municipality?
The development of sewer and water systems would help in the economic development of our area.
4) Do you think a municipality has a role to play in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other healthcare workers?
To recruit Doctors and healthcare workers to our area we must have good services available in terms of daycare and schooling. A functional and up to date hospital is important as are proper healthcare offices. Other services such as restaurants, tradesmen and recreational facilities are also important. The municipality supports many of these services.
5) What issue do you believe is a top priority for Northern Bruce Peninsula to tackle during the next term?
Our priorities should be sewer and water expansions and the implementation of our recent Climate Action Plan.
6) What steps could municipalities take to help get more housing built that you support?
Building sewer and water infrastructure, revamping of bylaws to allow unique and different types of housing, working closely with developers interested in rental units and small family starter homes.
