1) Why are you running?
I am running because of a civic duty and obligation to the taxpayers to make this municipality the best it can be. More open and transparent government.
2) Are there any steps municipalities can take to help ease cost of living.
Under no circumstances should we be raising taxes, with the economy the way that it is. We as a municipality need to look at ways of making better use of taxpayers dollars and not be spending them foolishly.
3) What are you ideas for Economic development in your municipality.
We need to encourage businesses and entrepreneurs to live and work here. In order to make that happen, we need high speed Internet that encompasses the whole municipality.
4) Do you think a municipality has a role to play in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other healthcare workers.
Absolutely, without good daycares, schools, and hospitals you do not have a community.
5) What issue do you believe is a top priority for Northern Bruce Peninsula to tackle during next term.
There are several, but top of my list is water to the Tobermory Community Center. It is our evacuation centre in case of an emergency and it continually runs out of water.
Second would be audio and video recordings of all council meetings, so the taxpayers can hear and see how decisions are made. It hard to get taxpayers engaged when they have no idea what’s going on, unless they take the afternoon off to attend council meetings. We need to stop building walls and hiding behind closed doors.
Third, would be to start awarding contacts locally when ever possible while being fiscally responsible. We don’t need roofers coming from Toronto and we don’t need docks coming from Parry Sound. We need to be totally transparent in our requests for work being done in this municipality.
6) What steps could municipalities take to help get more housing built that you support.
We could waive fees or reduce the fees. I believe that we need to look at our bylaws and make some changes there. We allow 5000 sq. ft houses to be built, but we do not allow for a duplex or triplex to be built.
