1) Why are you running?
I love my community and the people who live in it. My family and I have lived here for over 35 enjoyable years. Its natural beauty is breathtaking and needs to be protected. My first term as a councillor provided many real challenges but was extremely rewarding. Tough decisions were required on many issues and I tried to make them by educating myself on the impact they would have on the community.
I have contributed a lot of time to my community as a volunteer with many organizations and will continue to do so. I humbly ask for your support to allow me to serve a second term on council.
2) Are there any steps municipalities can take to help ease cost of living concerns?
– Citizens’ advisory board
– Pursue funding opportunities to support the development4) Do you think the municipality has a role to play in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other healthcare workers?
The committee’s mandate would be to address the shortage in collaboration with leaders in our community and other communities addressing the same problem. An aggressive marketing campaign prompting our community and its benefits would be part of the recruitment strategy. We are competing with other communities in a tough market and must do whatever is necessary to come out on top.5) Do you support the approval of a proposed land based Fish Farm in the Wiarton area?
I do not support the fish farm. We need to protect our beautiful bay against any potential harm.
6) What are your views on beach maintenance and parking in Sauble Beach?
Sauble Beach is critical to our economy. Thousands of people enjoy the beach every summer and have for many years. No one will come to a dirty beach. We can’t afford not to maintain the beach at the highest level possible. Caution must be taken however, not to disturb nesting areas where protected bird species may habitate. Parking has always been a challenge at the beach. Parking provides a source of revenue which can be utilized for beach maintenance. Pedestrian safety has always been a concern and will continue to pose a risk management issue. Large parking areas are scarce and most would be located too far from the main beach. Public input could help to address the problem and should be sought.
