1) Why are you running?
I decided to run in this year’s election for Council because I felt like there is a lot of momentum shifting in our community and I want to be there to represent my age demographic. Being near 40 we are under-represented or have been at this council for quite sometime. I want to be there to have our voices heard as we are the population that live, work and raise children here. I guess what I am saying is I plan to bring my demographic perspective when it comes to discussions regarding daycare, attainable housing, playgrounds, dog parks and many other points. I have spent more than 25 years volunteering in my community so I know how meetings are run and how you get things done. I have a lot to learn but am not afraid to roll up my sleeves and work hard for my community members.
2) Are there any steps municipalities can take to help ease cost of living concerns?
As I am new to a lot of the ins and outs of how the Municipality can assist in living costs, I have been out and asking questions. That is how I have learned that in the case of the affordable housing the municipality can broker the deal with the developer to make the units actually affordable for a person to live in. I am sure as things develop there will
be more. Along with improved transportation plans so that people can afford to live and get to work in an affordable fashion.
3) What are your ideas for economic development in your municipality?
As far as I know there is already an economic plan that has been started by the Municipality. Besides following its building blocks, I think we should all be open to new ideas to continue to grow together. Along with keeping communication at the top.
4) Do you think the municipality has a role to play in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other healthcare workers?
This municipality already has an active committee in place for exactly that. I think that unfortunately the pandemic has not helped those efforts. As well as building attainable housing for them to live in. My first thought is to open a dialogue with other municipalities that have had success in recruiting Doctors and how we could possibly fit that
model in with our community.
