1) Why are you running?
I’m running for Saugeen Shores councillor in the Saugeen Township ward in order to give the residents of the ward someone they can vote for who will be transparent and accountable to the residents while bringing new ideas to council. More candidates means a stronger democracy on local issues.
2) Are there any steps municipalities can take to help ease cost of living concerns?
Yes. Municipalities can look at their land use planning while working with developers, provincial, and federal governments to give incentives for developing affordable housing.
3) What are your ideas for economic development in your municipality?
Saugeen Shores needs to work with private industry to show them this is great area to open a business. When a business opens, skilled labor will follow. They can also partner with colleges and universities to help foster programs that employers need.
4) Do you think the municipality has a role to play in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other healthcare workers?
The municipality has a role to play in recruiting doctors. The hospitals need to recruit nurses and other healthcare staff. My plan is to work with the provincial and federal governments to ensure rural hospitals have options when it comes to hiring healthcare workers.
5) What are your views on the revitalization of Port Elgin’s waterfront?
I support developing the waterfront at the Port Elgin beach since it has become an eyesore and fell into disrepair. I do however, want the process for these kinds of decisions to be more open and transparent than what has currently happened in regards to the development.
6) How would you propose the town manage its projected growth over the next 10 to 20 years?
I think the town needs to look at where they are developing and whether the new developments fit with the existing landscape of the Town. The town will also need to ensure current infrastructure can support current citizens before deciding to go ahead with new developments.
