Saugeen Shores council has approved an update to the Town’s alcohol policy that allows for more public facilities to offer drinks.
The new policy includes the tiered seating at the Plex ice rink in Port Elgin where the WOAA Saugeen Shores Winterhawks hockey team plays as well as the Coliseum arena in Southampton.
In October of 2021, the Winterhawks made a delegation to council, asking for permission to license the spectator areas of the Plex during Winterhawks home games.
The updated policy also includes the Lamont Sports Park, Lawn Bowling Club, Chantry Centre, Art School and Art Gallery. (Event operators must have the applicable permits).
Staff say in their report, “The previous Municipal Alcohol Policy was created in 2013. The Policy was due for review and updating, but also, requests to host licenced events at locations not included in the previous Policy have also reinforced the need for the update.”
A staff report says, “Going forward, communication with regular event organizers will be a priority to ensure they are aware of the revisions and the expectations of their next event on municipal property.”
