Owen Sound Police will be taking part in a national public awareness campaign over the next few days to promote safe driving behaviours.
Today marks the beginning of Operation Impact 2022, an effort that aims to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world.
From today until Monday, Oct. 10, police services across the country will be focused on behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk.
Owen Sound Police say this includes alcohol, fatigue or drugs, as well as aggressive driving, distracted driving and driving without a seatbelt.
“Many of our collisions are completely preventable by drivers making the decision to put away their phone while driving, reducing their speed, having patience and never choosing to drink or use drugs and drive,” says Owen Sound Police Insp. Jeff Fluney. “With many people on the roads this weekend visiting family and friends, we want drivers to make smart choices to ensure the safety of everyone.”
This year, the Owen Sound Police Service’s message to the community is “put your best foot forward” by “putting the brakes” on bad driving behaviours.
