Get a Comfortable Mattress
Sleeping on a good mattress is one of the best ways to make long-haul trucking more comfortable. If your cab’s mattress is getting worn out, it could be one reason you’re having trouble sleeping. Sleeping on an old mattress is a surefire way to end up with back and neck pain the next morning, which just makes it that much harder to fall asleep the next night.
Practice Noise Management
Ideally, you’ll be so tired after a long day of driving that you can fall asleep without any problems, but many truckers are forced to sleep whenever it’s convenient. That means you could be trying to sleep while everyone else is awake.
To minimize the amount of noise keeping you awake, try wearing earplugs or running a white noise machine while you sleep. There are also headphones specially designed for sleeping, allowing you to block out all other noise with ambient music.
Make the Temperature Comfortable
If your sleeper cab doesn’t come with temperature controls, it’s a good idea to find alternative ways to make your cab comfortable. A small electric fan, or even a battery-powered one, can help cool you down on hot nights, while high-quality, thick blankets and socks can help keep out the chill.
Block Out the Light
Another trick for getting a good night’s sleep in a truck cab is to block out all sources of light as much as you can. Use thick curtains to cover any windows so you don’t have light distracting you while you sleep. If that doesn’t work, you could try using a sleeping mask.
