Municipal staff in Kincardine say they’re looking into complaints about people running unlicensed taxis.
Kincardine requires drivers for hire to hold a valid municipal taxi driver’s licence to operate a cab, limousine or other paid vehicle services.
The municipality is asking residents to be mindful when they’re hopping into a cab to make sure it’s licensed, as they could unknowingly expose themselves to liability risk.
“The biggest risk is that if the driver gets in an accident with you as a passenger their insurance may not cover you,” says Kincardine Manager of Legislative Services and Clerk Jennifer Lawrie. “There’s also
the risk of getting into a stranger’s car.”
According to the municipality, ride share programs like Uber and Lyft are not currently operating in the Kincardine area.
