There could be some changes coming to federal electoral ridings that will affect some municipalities in Grey Bruce.
The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Ontario has proposed a new map following 2021 census results that showed population growth in some areas.
Locally, the proposed changes would see Grey Highlands shifted from the riding of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound to what is now Simcoe-Grey, which would be renamed Collingwood-Blue Mountains.
The riding of Huron-Bruce would also undergo a name change to South Huron Shores, and extend further south.
The new riding of South Huron Shores would not include Brockton and South Bruce — they would be added to Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.
Public hearings on the proposed federal electoral boundary changes are scheduled to be held from September 26th to October 29th, and a report from the commission will follow.
