The city of Barrie says the scene of a crash on the weekend where six people died, was a construction zone which had been closed since the spring.
There has been sewer and road work along McKay Road and Veterans Road, and a statement from the city says intersection has been fully closed and signed for many months.
Barrie police have not released the names of those who died in the single vehicle crash, but say six people who were reported missing Saturday were involved.
The horrific scene was discovered early Sunday morning. The victims, four men and two women, were all in their early 20s.
The City is devastated to hear the news of this accident. We are thinking of all the friends and family of these six young people. Flags at City Hall are being lowered to fly at half-mast. https://t.co/WIFMcZceQa
