A local power distributor broke some rules when it sent out disconnection notices last year and the year before.
The Ontario Energy Board has found that EPCOR failed to fully comply with its obligations under provincial regulations, though the error was unintentional and EPCOR has now rectified the situation.
The OEB found than 100 customers had their power wrongfully disconnected.
In some cases the required notice was not provided, and some customers had their power cut outside of the provincially regulated window.
EPCOR has agreed to pay an $18,000 penalty to the board and has refunded disconnection fees.
It has also provided a $50 credit to affected customers and has committed to make a donation to the low income energy assistance fund.
EPCOR distributes electricity to customers in Collingwood, Stayner, Creemore, and Thornbury.
EPCOR submitted an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance which was accepted by the OEB.
