Grey Bruce OPP have identified the victim of a drowning in Chatsworth Township last week.
Emergency services responded to the incident around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, when police say an individual was removed from the water of a pool and pronounced dead after unsuccessful life-saving measures.
Provincial Police have identified the victim as 23-year-old Hellen Nyabuto of North York.
Grey Bruce OPP have not disclosed where the incident occurred or any additional information about what happened.
According to a CBC report, Nyabuto was a personal support worker from Toronto working at a long-term care home in Owen Sound who drowned in the pool of a motel she was staying at in the area.
There was a video of the incident circulating online that OPP acknowledged they were trying to have taken down.
Police confirm the death is not suspicious in nature.
An online fundraiser was launched following the tragedy by the victim’s sister and it has already nearly reached its $50,000 goal.
The GoFundMe page explains the dollars will be used to repatriate Nyabuto’s body to her family in Kenya, where she migrated from to Canada three years ago.
