Essex County OPP say they are looking to identify a suspect who withdrew $4,500 from a bank in Owen Sound.
Police say on June 2, members from the Lakeshore Detachment responded to an address in the Municipality of Lakeshore, where an unknown suspect stole the victim’s identity, took over his cell phone account, and withdrew the cash from the victim’s bank account.
OPP say the investigation revealed that on May 31, an unknown male attended a Rogers store in Barrie and provided a fraudulent Ontario drivers licence and made changes to the victim’s cell phone plan. That same day, the suspect visited the bank in Owen Sound and withdrew the money from the account.
Police say additionally, the victim advised that there was an attempt to set up a credit card under his name, however, the application was denied.
The OPP is continuing to investigate and is seeking assistance in identifying a person of interest in this investigation.
