Grey Bruce OPP were busy this past long weekend keeping the roads safe.
Over the Civic Holiday long weekend, The Grey Bruce OPP detachment laid 75 charges:
- 47 speeding charges
- 3 stunt driving charges
- 2 seatbelt charges
- 1 distracted driving charge
- 2 impaired operation charges
- 2 compulsory automobile insurance act charges
- 18 other provincial offense charges
The main focus of this year’s campaign was the “move over law” which requires drivers to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles and tow trucks when emergency lights are activated.
Meanwhile, South Bruce OPP which covers the geographical area from Arran Elderslie down to Huron County say they laid 140 charges during the long weekend.
That includes 119 speeding charges, three stunt driving, and two impaired driving charges. they say there were four collisions with no injuries reported at the scene.
Meanwhile, province wide, OPP responded to five fatalities, laying more than 4,200 speeding charges in total including 100 stunt driving charges and over 170 impaired driving charges as well as nearly 100 distracted driving charges.
OPP headquarters says the 6,918 traffic-related charges laid throughout the weekend are the latest reminder of how many careless and dangerous drivers are putting the public at risk.
